Trick or Treat!

ALRIGHT!
So the way Heritage Halls (where I live) does trick or treating is they invite the kids from the married housing to trick or treat through the halls. That means we get to give candy to little kids! I'm sitting in my apartment right now with two of my roommates, waiting for trick-or-treaters. Here are two little funny experiences:

A family of pumpkins comes by, the wife being pregnant.
"yeah, it was the only way I could get my stomach into the mix. We're a bunch of pumpkins in a pumpkin patch!" (mom)
"And we've definitely been watered." (dad)

I'm holding out the bowl of candy to a little baby who is being held by his dad.
"pick one" he says as I hold out the bowl. The baby's hand hovers over the bowl
"Haha, don't be so picky!" the dad says. The baby then grabs a dum-dum and promptly sticks it into his mouth. Wrapper and all.....while holding a sucker and drool in the other hand.

That's it for the trick or treating, but we went to the Stake Halloween Dance too! My apartment is on the Activities Committee so we were in charge of the photo booth and the refreshments. It was pretty exciting. I was at the photo booth for about 40 minutes of the four hour dance, then at the refreshment table for the other 3 hours and 10 minutes I wasn't dancing. Some may say, "Oh, I'm sorry! You should have gotten out there to dance!" But really, I was happy to be there behind the refreshment table. Honestly, I was. I don't really like dances since nobody knows how to really dance anymore. I don't like bouncing around next to other people throwing their heads and arms all over the place. I'd like to actually dance! Cha-cha, mambo, salsa, waltz, two-step, tango....you know. The fun stuff. Nobody knows how to do that anymore. And if they do, they don't want to dance with a girl like me because I don't know how to. I will be taking a social dance class sometime in the next 4 years though, so I'll sort of know how to dance by the end of my college experience....when it won't really matter anyway.

But back to the refreshment table. I had a blast!! We had to refill the juice and water coolers and keep the cookies and brownies stocked. That doesn't seem very "blast" worthy does it?

Let me tell you what went down on my side of town.

There are probably about 40 gallons of juice. I don't know why the stake bought that much....but there it was. Everything was going great until we started running out of water. There were ZERO water jugs. ZERO. 40 gallons of juice and ZERO gallons of extra water...hmmmmm.... Once the water started running low we had quite a dilemma on our hands. We had about 10 empty juice jugs at this point and someone came up with the idea to fill the empty juice jugs with water from the sinks/drinking fountains and bring them back, then pouring the water into the coolers. Seems like a good solution, no? Well, that's what I was doing for 2 hours. Filling and dumping, filling and dumping, filling and dumping. AND IT WAS GREAT! I hardly believe it, but it's true. I hated hearing the music, I didn't want to be in there during certain songs, I didn't like seeing everyone dancing.....I did like walking around with 4 gallons of water in my hands though. In a way, I felt like I was magnifying my calling. Is that bragging, boasting, being prideful? I don't know. But I've been called to the activities committee, and that was our job, so I made sure it got done. And loved it.

When we had 45 minutes left of the dance we ran out of cups. NOT GOOD. We did have way more than 10 empty juice jugs at this point....why not put them to use?? So I started letting people take the juice jugs and use them as "cups." Hahahaha, it was SO entertaining.

A person comes up to me, asking if we have anymore cups. I tell him, "No, but would you like a juice jug?" He looks at me as if I'm simply crazy. I smile, holding it out to him. After a few seconds of deep philosophical contemplation, he takes it, shrugging his shoulders. This happens many many many times. Some people don't want to take a jug though and just open their mouths under the spout and let the water fall down. Nobody touched their mouth to it, no worries. They didn't want to walk 20 yards out to the drinking fountain though.....

The things people will do when they're thirsty and lazy.

These pictures are from the photo booth which the activities committee made. I drew the tree, Mykell painted the awesomeness on the tree and moon, and Emily painted the witch.
