A remedy for being tossed among the billows of life

Today!  Ah ha!

My car: I should take care of it, right?  And since I'm handing it off to Lydia soon it should probably be in tip top shape when she gets it.  I took it to the auto shop today just to have them check it out and see if there was anything they needed to fix.  Initially the mechanic said a diagnostic test would be $20, and then anything they find will be added to that, but they'd let me know before they did anything.

"Okay! Sounds good!" and I left my baby with them.

Then they call me back a bit later and tell me my clutch is having issues, but it's still drivable.  Replacing it would cost about $600.  I already knew that though, so I just said not to do anything with that.  And then they mentioned something else, but the mechanic said, "If I were you, I'd just drive the heck out of it until it breaks and then replace the broken parts or get a new car."

Well, thanks for your honesty Mr. Mechanic.  How much will the services you've given cost me today?

You can just go ahead and take your car.  Today it's a freebee.

??  A car mechanic walking away from an opportunity to make a little more.

You've given me hope, Mr. Mechanic.  Thank you for your kindness. :)

My computer: It's been having a few issues with the display.  When it works, it works fine.  When it doesn't work, it doesn't work at all.  I never know what will happen when I lift the screen up and turn it on.  I decided to take it into the campus computer fixer-upers.  They said an initial diagnostic test would be $65, and then anything on top of that.  The guy at the counter gave me three possible things they'd find wrong with it, and each one cost me $50 or more.....

I think I'll keep my computer for the next month and then get a new one when I come back from my mission, Mr. Computer Fixer-Uper.  But thank you for your thoughts and honesty.  Have a nice day!

Pre-MTC language test:  I got an email from the MTC today asking me to call if I've had more than three years of Spanish, total.  So I called them and the guy asked me a few simple questions in Spanish, and I answered them.  He was impressed with my responses even though they were REALLY REALLY simple and told me that the intermediate class at the MTC would be the best place for me.

I felt pretty good about myself.  Plus the guy on the phone sounded very nice and that is always pleasant - to talk to a nice sounding person.

Engineering HW: I finished it this morning before the campus devotional and can I just say I have fallen in love with so many of those men I do homework with in that lab.  Not in a lovey-dovey sort of way, but in a "You're awesome and you give me hope for the men in this world.  I respect you and I've learned a lot from you.  Engineer to engineer," sort of way.  They definitely make doing the homework bearable even though I do have adrenaline rushes every now and then when I'm doing it.  Sometimes it's just so cool to learn how to calculate different things!!!  No joke.

Time:  10 days of classes left.  14 days until classes are over.  16 days until Laurel comes home. 18 days until I'm done with finals for 2 years. 26 days until I speak by the side of my sister in church. 27 days until I become set apart as an ambassador for the Lord, a missionary representing Jesus Christ. 29 days until I am in Spain (hopefully my visa comes in time).

Mission Stuff: My parents helped me find a scripture that will be put on my missionary plaque that hangs in my ward building.  We settled on D&C 123:17.  "Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed."

And, I've received my topic I'm to speak on for my farewell talk.  I must answer the question, "What does Joseph Smith's example teach me about learning the gospel?"  I'm so grateful I get to study the life of the prophet who ushered in this dispensation.  It's an answer to a question I presented to the Lord a few months ago.

"When upon life's billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done."
Verse 1 of Count Your Many Blessings
