I'll eat you up!!

Today was the day to get things done. I practiced the piano for about 3 hours total and then the organ for 1, got my calculus done, and most of my theory. I feel like it wasn't a waste of a day, but it definitely wasn't the most enjoyable. I don't think being accomplished would make me happy...it would be nice and I wouldn't have to worry about being dumb, but the things that make me happiest are the times that I laugh with my sisters and mother.

In the middle of this "get it done" day my mom, Laurel and Lydia along with my cousin who came down for Thanksgiving were all sitting in the family room (where almost all silly, crazy, and off-the wall things happen in my family). Lydia had been saying, "I'll eat you up!" for a bit of the evening so she comes over to mom and says,
"Threaten me! Say something mean." We all look at her like she's completely lost it.
"What?" she replies to our blank faces. "No! Come on, seriously. Say something mean." Mom doesn't say anything and we just kind of go back to our conversation. Lydia had gotten the milk out before she sat down on the couch so mom wanted her to put it away.
"Lydia, put the milk away or you'll be in BIG trouble," Mom says with a bit of sarcasm in her voice. Laurel, my cousin, and I start chuckling. Lydia had replied "O.K." quite offhandedly. At that point we all burst out laughing. Lydia did not understand. She looked around trying her hardest to figure it out.
"Oh! I'll eat you up!!" she finally got it. Mom threatened her, just like Lydia had asked but Lydia totally missed it. I got a good laugh out of it.

Tonight I kind of went crazy.  After a day on campus doing engineering homework and then Spanish homework I was tired.  I came home and tried to do more homework, but alas, I failed utterly as illustrated by my body strewn across my bed having no movement; I was tired.  My roommate came in and told me about FHE, but I told her I wasn't going to come tonight.  No energy. I got up a few minutes later because I shouldn't be sleeping at 7 pm.  So I got up and realized how hungry I was!  That may have been part of the reason I had no energy....  So I ate a bagel with some delicious cream cheese.  Mmmmm. :) Side note* I'm trying dairy again because maybe that is the problem I'm having with my back, maybe it's not.  So I'm going back and forth for now.  2 weeks without dairy, 2 weeks with dairy, 2 weeks without....and then we'll see how much of a difference it makes.  I'm eating my bagel and two of my other roommates are going off to...

Happy Thanksgiving!

So, thanksgiving was pretty good....wonderful food, wonderful company, wonderful desserts! I got to see my brand new cousin, born only 9 days ago. That was spectacular! Babies are....magnificent. Finals are in two weeks and I'm not ready. I'm scared out of my mind. Which is strange because recently I've been sort of...happy go lucky.....and now I'm coming out of that and realizing that being that way is not very good because it creates a false security of life being completely good and worry free, which it's not. Life is good. Don't get me wrong. But it's not completely worry free. Without worries, I wouldn't get anything done. I've gotten a minimal amount done up to this point and now I feel like I'm swimming in chin high water and I'm only going deeper. Needless to say, I'll be buckling down these next couple of weeks. - no social life Amelia!! Okay? Okay!!! Two weeks out of my life....eh....no biggie. I'll be grate...

Mercy, Justice, and Unmerited Grace

Last night some of my family members and I sat down to watch the movie, "Just Mercy."  It follows the story of a young lawyer, newly graduated from Harvard.  As an African American raised in the north, he goes to the south and meets a new kind of opposition to his work of representing prisoners on death row.  This young lawyer takes on an African American client accused of murdering a 19 year old white girl some years earlier.  Throughout his investigation he find unmistakable evidence of his client's innocence and uses the justice system as it was created to give the accused man a fair trial.  Yet, he is faced with overwhelming opposition from the white community -- police, judges, and residents alike. Despite that, this young lawyer fights the fear and racism he and his client and the African American community face.  To this day he and his team have saved over 140 people from death row.
