And so it begins

Today marked the first sacrament meeting in my college ward. The strangeness and foreign-ness of this new ward definitely presented itself, but it a way, there came a normality about all of it. My roommate taught in Sunday school, though it wasn't the Sunday school I went to since my ward would be the same in sacrament as well as Sunday school if they didn't split it up. My apartment has the assignment to teach Sunday School for the first 4 weeks and so she took the first week, that brave soul. She's a people person though and I love being around her so she most likely did a wonderful job. We met with the bishopric as an apartment and later this week we'll meet with them individually. They seem very likable and loving. I'm excited to get to know them better and serve in the ward. During the "interviews" I told them I'd be willing to play the piano whenever they wanted me too and one of the High Councilors said, "So if you were asked to play...

College is coming through my door

I moved down to Provo where I will be attending BYU. It's small and I have yet to figure out how to get ready and not look like a mess when I'm finished. I don't think my straightener likes the change of scenery. I've found it's not as effective here, which is weird because the outlets work just fine. Maybe it's just the way I'm using it because I'm not liking the change of scenery.... These are a few pictures of my dorm room. It's small, but cozy. A funny story about my curtains: I had them hanging over the shelf and tucked between the wall and my bed, but Wednesday night (the first night sleeping here) I was moving around a lot and ended up pulling the curtains forward a little and one of the picture frames fell on me. The corner hit the corner of my eye. Thankfully I wasn't too injured, but I quickly took everything off and set it on my desk and gobbled the curtains up and set them up out of the way until the next morning when I folded...

Doing it because you have to turns into doing it because you love it.

That's how I feel about teaching piano for the past 5 or 6 months. I started out doing it because I thought it would be a good way to get a little extra cash. I wasn't too excited about it and I wasn't really wanting to all that much. But as my students and I had fun times, frustrating times, smiles, tears, I feel in love with teaching. My piano teacher was saying how she loves teaching so much during one of my lessons with her and I was confused as to why anyone would love teaching piano.....but here I am, not wanting to leave my students. I don't want to give them to somebody else to teach. I know the way they learn, what works for them, and how they pay attention better than any other piano teacher out there. I feel selfish, but I don't want another teacher to gain their trust or smiles. Maybe I can drive up to Salt Lake on Saturdays.....just kidding. If only that could really happen. I love them very much. And I never thought that would happen when I a...

Simply wonderful sunsets on the street

Image
On Sunday Mabel invited me and Amy to watch the sunset from a street that over looks the entire Salt Lake Valley. Needless to say, it was quite beautiful. We had a good time talking about Amy's adorable family that is currently expanding (extended family is expanding) and Mabel's adorable little nieces and nephew. I love sunsets so much! Especially when they're mind blowing. Sunday's sunset wasn't so much mind blowing but simply wonderful. There is a beauty in simplicity that can't be found in any sort of extravagance. When I'm driving through an old neighborhood with small, cozy, well kept homes I feel so happy. Those neighborhood are a little piece of heaven for me because small homes mean people working to live a good life, but not in extravagance. Well kept homes mean they have their lives in order. If a home is kept in order I tend to think life is easier to keep in order. Usually the keeping of the yard and most rooms comes after work during th...

Reminicing about the past while shopping for the future

Today Mother, Lydia, Georgia, Ruby and I went shopping at Ikea, Payless Shoe Source, and Wal-mart. I got some kitchen supplies to back up my other kitchen supplies I got two days ago at Target. In all I bought: an electric hand mixer, a 30 piece set of kitchen utensils which includes a pizza cutter, an egg slicer, a can opener, mixing spoons, chip bag clips, measuring cups, teaspoons and tablespoons, some rubber spatulas, some pancake flippers, and then more! And it was less than 30 dollars so I was pretty happy about that. I also got some wooden spoons and an ice cream scoop because that is an ESSENTIAL to college life. :) Then today at Ikea I got 3 plates which can be used for eating or serving food, a cutting board, some glass cups, some porcelain cups, dish rags, a rolling pin, some bowls that can also be used for eating/serving, and then some tupperware and silverware. I also got some new sheets which I'm going to use under my current comforter in my room. I'm going t...
