THE ROOMMATES

Chelsea
is the one that laughs and laughs then brings everyone else into her warm laughter. While we were meeting with the Bishopric they all asked us to talk about ourselves for a bit and before Chelsea could start talking every said that she was the funny one. By the end of our apartment interview the Bishopric agreed with that. Her smile and happy countenance are definitely nice to be around. (Diclaimer: I had just come home from being out in the rain so I don't look very great.)

Emily is the excellent flute player who loves to smile and is very excited about life and the adventures that have come as well as those that await. She is always sure to let one know she cares. She wants dearly to become a special education teacher (right?) and loves everyone around her. She's the one on the right.

Mykell knows what she wants and goes for it. She's a very disciplined person, but seems very content with her life and will keep working on where she wants to get. She and I share a dislike of parties and large social gatherings which is kind of funny because our apartment (we 6 girls) got called to be half of the activities committee in our ward so we'll be planning all the ward social gatherings! Haha. Mykell is on the left in the striped green and white shirt.
Camilla doesn't like meeting other Camilla's who spell their name with two l's because it would make her feel not unique. She was kidding when she said that, but either way, even if there were other "Camilla's" she would still be amazingly unique, just like all my other roommates. She's from Brazil so she speaks Portuguese as her first language, English as her second language, and Spanish as her third language since she live in Argentina for 2 years as well. She wants to major in Photography and I showed her your website Angela! She loves your colors. She's the one on the left....in case you couldn't tell, haha.

And then there's MORGAN! who shares my room with me. The 6 of us share the apartment, but Morgan is my literal roommate.....and I love her! She's so willing and easy going. I'm glad I didn't get stuck with someone extremely head strong and pushy. We chose to room together during our Senior year at Oly High, but either way, it's working well. If anyone is going to push anyone's buttons it will probably be me pushing her too far. I hope that DOESN'T happen though. She was so kind the other day when I forgot to write down where I was supposed to go right after class and class was about to start so I couldn't snag a computer and look it up off my e-mail so I text her the info and where the e-mail would be and if she could tell me where I was supposed to go and she got right back to me before class even started with the information!! I was SO grateful. This is a picture off Facebook since there wasn't one from our roommates' pictures. I think it shows her good humored nature wonderfully as well as the fact that she knows how to have fun.

THE CLASSES

Calculus - Ms. Melissa Mitchell is doing her graduate work in teaching so she can't be called professor yet, and really, I can't see her as being a professor because she doesn't have a great hold on teaching yet. She says, "Yes? No?" A LOT and it gets really annoying sometimes. She also says "okaaaa" without finishing the word so much. I'm trying really hard to focus on the material and not the manner in which she talks about the material, but sometimes it's a little tricky.
American Heritage - Dr. Kelly Patterson looks rather foreboding on the American Heritage homepage, but after the first few days of class, I rather like him. He always wears a bow tie and uses his height (he's short) to his advantage as he makes us laugh because of it. Apparently he wears bow ties because the regular ties are too long for him to wear. And one of the older students who has talked to him in the past says he likes to talk about how he gets his clothes tailored to fit him because nothing in the stores fits him to his liking because of his height.
Book of Mormon - Dr. Jeffery Marsh has a slight lisp but I enjoy listening to him lecture. He does not like repeating himself though. If he says which books to get and where to get them, then a student in the class raises their hand and asks if all the books are in the bookstore he answers shortly and looks a little irritated.....so pay attention. He has two degrees from BYU (I forget in what) and is currently working on getting a third degree...CrAzY!
Physics - Dr. Harold Stokes is a funny man who is very much the stereotypical scientist. He looks a bit crazy, goes quickly and assumes you've understood the textbook to the T and skips all the math. He showed us a comic that I couldn't find on the internet which said something along the lines of, "I'm about to make the most important life changing discovery in the history of the earth! But sure, I can take a minute to answer your question....." It was a physics teacher talking to a student. He seems like an interesting teacher to say in the least.
Interior Design - Ms./Dr. Julee Anne Braithwaite is tall and seems very much into her teaching subject. I'm not sure if she can be called Dr. since she never clarified that. I took an interior design class in High School but that was more hands on and Julee said this class will be more of the theory behind interior design. And I'm good with that. Learning how and why things works is always important. Although, we have a final "file project" due at the end of the term and it's almost identical to the final project I had to turn in for my High School interior design class. I'm excited to see how much I remember from that past class!

THE FOOD

My roommates and I have worked out a dinner plan where each girl takes a day of the week and will always cook dinner on that day, then on Sunday we all cook dinner together. It's worked out wonderfully for the first week. I feel bad though because I came home for Labor Day weekend and missed my cooking day which was on Friday. I'm going to bring home lasagna and dough for bread sticks though that can be stuck in the freezer for Friday so I'll have really good food for them at the end of the week to hopefully make up for missing last Friday.
As for the rest of my eating.....I thought I'd have gained 5 lbs. in the first week, Mykell bought a scale and I found that I weight the EXACT SAME as I did at the beginning of the summer! Hopefully I can say that near the end of my college experience...haha.
Because I'm in Heritage Halls the apartment has a kitchen and my roommates and I have split up the cabinet space and fridge space wonderfully. It's all working out fabulously I would say. :)

......THE WALKING

The first day of orientation we took a tour of campus and I about died! It probably didn't help that I wasn't very hydrated, but still....there were a lot of steps taken that day. Thankfully I live close to all of my classes except Physics and even that isn't too much of a walk. I think the longest walk to a class is about 15 minutes which really isn't that bad.
I rather enjoy walking, I've found.

So that's college at the moment. I'll see how much it changes and how much it stays the same. As for now, too-de-loo!

  1. Darling! sounds like you're having a marvelous time at college! Just 2 things:
    1. The Rhapsody on a Theme from Paganini on your playlist is an impostor. That isn't the legitimate piece... or anything like it for that matter. Just thought you should know you're being hoodwinked ;)
    and
    2. Here are two sentences from your blog post "If anyone is going to push anyone's buttons it will probably be me pushing her too far. I hope that does happen though." - Read it carefully. hahaha.

  2. 1. I know it's not a very acceptable rendition of it, (it doesn't even finish...what is that about??) but that's pretty much all I could find. I have the entire thing on my itunes though, so no fear. (I bought it today!!! *squeal*)
    2. Hahahaha, that's a wonderful and very useful observation. Thank you. I think I fixed it...

  3. No, no, dear heart. I mean that isn't the Rhapsody... well you have the real one... I don't know if the numbers are the same but right now it's number 17. That isn't written by Rachmaninov at all...That's a piano version of some 60s song, I'm pretty sure.
    Okay. Love you!
