Doing it because you have to turns into doing it because you love it.

That's how I feel about teaching piano for the past 5 or 6 months. I started out doing it because I thought it would be a good way to get a little extra cash. I wasn't too excited about it and I wasn't really wanting to all that much. But as my students and I had fun times, frustrating times, smiles, tears, I feel in love with teaching. My piano teacher was saying how she loves teaching so much during one of my lessons with her and I was confused as to why anyone would love teaching piano.....but here I am, not wanting to leave my students. I don't want to give them to somebody else to teach. I know the way they learn, what works for them, and how they pay attention better than any other piano teacher out there. I feel selfish, but I don't want another teacher to gain their trust or smiles. Maybe I can drive up to Salt Lake on Saturdays.....just kidding. If only that could really happen. I love them very much. And I never thought that would happen when I a...

Simply wonderful sunsets on the street

Image
On Sunday Mabel invited me and Amy to watch the sunset from a street that over looks the entire Salt Lake Valley. Needless to say, it was quite beautiful. We had a good time talking about Amy's adorable family that is currently expanding (extended family is expanding) and Mabel's adorable little nieces and nephew. I love sunsets so much! Especially when they're mind blowing. Sunday's sunset wasn't so much mind blowing but simply wonderful. There is a beauty in simplicity that can't be found in any sort of extravagance. When I'm driving through an old neighborhood with small, cozy, well kept homes I feel so happy. Those neighborhood are a little piece of heaven for me because small homes mean people working to live a good life, but not in extravagance. Well kept homes mean they have their lives in order. If a home is kept in order I tend to think life is easier to keep in order. Usually the keeping of the yard and most rooms comes after work during th...

Reminicing about the past while shopping for the future

Today Mother, Lydia, Georgia, Ruby and I went shopping at Ikea, Payless Shoe Source, and Wal-mart. I got some kitchen supplies to back up my other kitchen supplies I got two days ago at Target. In all I bought: an electric hand mixer, a 30 piece set of kitchen utensils which includes a pizza cutter, an egg slicer, a can opener, mixing spoons, chip bag clips, measuring cups, teaspoons and tablespoons, some rubber spatulas, some pancake flippers, and then more! And it was less than 30 dollars so I was pretty happy about that. I also got some wooden spoons and an ice cream scoop because that is an ESSENTIAL to college life. :) Then today at Ikea I got 3 plates which can be used for eating or serving food, a cutting board, some glass cups, some porcelain cups, dish rags, a rolling pin, some bowls that can also be used for eating/serving, and then some tupperware and silverware. I also got some new sheets which I'm going to use under my current comforter in my room. I'm going t...

That's how July felt. Fun, but confusing. I received more hours at work! I was working for about 3 to 4 hours every Monday, but now it's more like 5 on Monday, and 3-4 on Tuesday and Friday. I was very happy about that. The only problem was that I had to learn googles of information that came with the new hours. I think I've got most of it down.....if my Morgan friend is sitting right behind me......hmmm? I'm an ADULT!!!!! My birthday was July 18th (18 on the 18th! my super birthday, Man!!) and I'm now a legal adult, the last of my friend group (even though I should have been the first out of my friends to be an adult....just kidding, it's better this way). It's fun being older, but I feel a lot more responsibility. I haven't really even changed my life yet. I simply turned 18. I've decided the 18th birthday is the only birthday (well, the only birthday I've had so far) where I can honestly say I feel different than I did when...

Happiness

Last night I baby sat two little boys by the name of Henry (4) and Jack (2). We played Sorry, Sorry Blast, Trains, and then watched 101 Dalmatians (not the cartoon). There were adventures here and there that happened and I shall tell about them shortly. Here they are, playing with their wooden train tracks. Henry pointed this out to me many times. Apparently it's broken. This is Jack running the train over the broken tracks. Henry didn't like that. They were broken and nobody else could use them because they were broken. Did I tell you that they were broken? This was distressing to Jack. There was a bump in the carpet so the tracks wouldn't lay straight. He was getting extremely frustrated and almost started crying, poor boy. It was very endearing. He's pointing it out to me. This is Sorry Blast according to Henry. You don't play with cards at all. You simply flick your pieces out of the start circle and depending on where it lands, you can eit...

Quotes #1 Said by those I love!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We were watching Swan Lake done by Chinese Acrobats and the following dialogue takes place, the subject being the Swan Princess. Ruby: I'd be so amazed if that were my daughter Georgia: I'd be so amazed if that were me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mom: How many kids are you going to have? Ruby: I'm thinking 2 or 3....cuz I don't wanna go pickin' them up after school! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We'd just been having scripture study and talking about Saul. Mom did not hear what Lydia asked Ruby as she was engaged in her own conversation with Dad, but right after Lydia asked Ruby, Mom said this. Lydia (to Ruby) : Why do you have one shoe on? Mother: ....mental illness..... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lydia: We are having blonde brownies. Ruby: Well, I don't like those. Lydia: Are you sure? Maybe you aren't remembering correctly. Ruby: Maybe you aren't remembering correctly th...
Here it comes....ready or not! I think I'm ready!!!
The past few days I have been reflecting back on the past 18 years (almost) of my life. And I would be telling a lie if I said I've had a terrible life. There have definitely been some extremely rough spots, but the joy and happiness I have felt quite drastically outweigh the sorrow and sadness. There were bad, dark instances that I thought would never end, and I don't know how they ceased, but I'm glad that my family was there to pull and shove me through my life at some points...haha. I look back on these 18 years and can distinctly see the Lord's hand in all of it. Any experience I think about, I see how it has helped me, how it has tested me, and how the Lord showered me with love. There have been very sacred experiences that will never be forgotten, and I thank the Lord dearly for who I have become, and who I will become with his help. There are definitely times I very much dislike things I do, who I am at times, but understanding that the Lord can help me o...
