Planes, Boats, and Cars. What more is there?

Recently I've been thinking about changing my major to Mechanical Engineering. It's a hard major and I'd have to really get on top of things, but I think I could do it. I like art, and I enjoyed my Calculus class this past semester. It was actually my favorite class! Some of you may be thinking, "Where is this coming from? I've heard her complaining and yelling about how terrible Calculus is!" Well.....I'll let you in on something. I overreact. I exaggerate things. When I'm upset, I get really really upset. There's no middle ground for me. It's all or nothing. So, when I was not liking Calculus, I really hated it passionately. But I got over it and now look back and have good memories because really, it wasn't THAT bad. For the most part..haha. Since I like Math and it was pretty much the only thing I felt good and comfortable with by the end of the semester and I like using my creative juices to make things, Mechanical Enginee...

Quotes #5

Sarahy: So, why don't you like ice skating? Morgan: Who told you that?!? Sarahy: Uh....you did. Tonight. Morgan: Oh. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After Lydia washed her face one evening, Ruby says, " Wow Lydia, I've never noticed, but you can see your zits really well when you're not wearing any skin makeup!!" What a kind 8 year old sister we have. haha! ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Me: I don't want to buy a big house. Morgan: What if you have 10 children? Me: Well, then, I might reconsider. Although, I don't think that's going to happen because I'm not very good with pain. Morgan: Maybe it won't be painful for you. *pause* Me: Did you really just say that? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Physics... Someone laughs randomly in class. Brother Stokes looks at them as the class goes silent. They try to calm down, eventually succeeding. Brother Stokes then says, "Save that for the lame joke I have l...

Laurel is home and finding long lost items!

I've missed mi hermana terribly, but now she's home and I've had a marvelous time with her. :D This past Sunday she came up to me and said she had my driver's license. "Why was it in my coat that has been in my closet for the past 6 months?" "I have no idea! My driver's license was in my pocket two days ago! I haven't touched your coat since then." We were utterly confused. "Do you have two?" "No, that would be silly! I have no recollection of getting a copy...." At this point we need to focus on learning some music for the ward Christmas program, but not before I have a sudden flash of enlightenment. "I did get another one!! Oh my gosh! I lost my license once and I got a copy when Lydia got her permit! I do have two!" And now we know where the lost license was all those months. In her coat that I wore to prom in May! It'd been lost since May...hahaha.

Sleep Adventures

This here is a compilation of previous adventures Morgan and I have had....while I've been sleep walking or talking. I'm therefore writing these with what she's told me as I have extremely little or no memory of my actions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ World's End I go to bed before Morgan and as I fall asleep, she is reading her scriptures so the light is on. She leaves the room to get ready for bed, accidentally leaving the light on, but I'm asleep so I don't really care. Go figure. When she comes back in after a bit of time, she notices the light is still on so she turns it off. I immediately sit up and say, "Oh my gosh!!" At this point she told me she was scared I was mad at her for leaving the light on and I was letting her know now that she'd turned it off. I then promptly check my laptop, then my cell phone. I grab my phone, and wave it at Morgan. "The power works! Just in case you were wondering....Do you want...

A little fun

Tonight my roommates and I along with a couple girls from our dorm went ice skating at an activity the BYUSA put on. $4 for the entire night which consisted of ice skating, broom ball, food, and Santa! We never saw Santa and I cried really really hard. The ice skating was fun though! One of the girls kept saying, "Okay! There's a group of boys! Let's go talk to them!" We never ended up talking to any boys though. I was more than okay with that. Striking up conversation with random people has never been a very happy thing for me. If there were people we already knew who were skating around I'd be more than happy to go talk to them. This one girl is really outgoing and happy so she's great at it. She happens to be my visiting teaching companion! I like her a lot. :) Before we went to the "Freeze Fest" as it was called, I had cleaning checks at 2:00 so I cleaned all morning. After cleaning checks Morgan and I put up my Christmas lights in o...

Happy Thanksgiving!

So, thanksgiving was pretty good....wonderful food, wonderful company, wonderful desserts! I got to see my brand new cousin, born only 9 days ago. That was spectacular! Babies are....magnificent. Finals are in two weeks and I'm not ready. I'm scared out of my mind. Which is strange because recently I've been sort of...happy go lucky.....and now I'm coming out of that and realizing that being that way is not very good because it creates a false security of life being completely good and worry free, which it's not. Life is good. Don't get me wrong. But it's not completely worry free. Without worries, I wouldn't get anything done. I've gotten a minimal amount done up to this point and now I feel like I'm swimming in chin high water and I'm only going deeper. Needless to say, I'll be buckling down these next couple of weeks. - no social life Amelia!! Okay? Okay!!! Two weeks out of my life....eh....no biggie. I'll be grate...

Trick or Treat!

Image
ALRIGHT! So the way Heritage Halls (where I live) does trick or treating is they invite the kids from the married housing to trick or treat through the halls. That means we get to give candy to little kids! I'm sitting in my apartment right now with two of my roommates, waiting for trick-or-treaters. Here are two little funny experiences: A family of pumpkins comes by, the wife being pregnant. "yeah, it was the only way I could get my stomach into the mix. We're a bunch of pumpkins in a pumpkin patch!" (mom) "And we've definitely been watered." (dad) I'm holding out the bowl of candy to a little baby who is being held by his dad. "pick one" he says as I hold out the bowl. The baby's hand hovers over the bowl "Haha, don't be so picky!" the dad says. The baby then grabs a dum-dum and promptly sticks it into his mouth. Wrapper and all.....while holding a sucker and drool in the other hand. That's it for the trick ...

Quotes #4 roomie 1, roomie 2, roomie 3, roomie 4, roomie 5, roomie 6 (that last one is me!)

After eating a box of cheerios and pulling the bag out.... Chelsea: WHOA! *gasp!!* There's a prize in here!! This hasn't happened to me since I was like....two! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nice Man: Do you have any spare keys? Car trouble anyone?

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." - Albert Einstein Think of today as Saturday. Today the relief society leaders have planned a service project. We go to an elderly lady's home and help her clean it up for two hours, getting lots and lots done!! Once we finish I feel refreshed. It was a change in scenery and activity. When we're getting reading to leave, I stick my hand in my pocket to take my keys out, but they aren't there!! I check all of my pockets but they are nowhere to be found. I had left my keys in the car once before and thought that I was very capable of doing it again so my roommates and I (I had given them all rides to the house) go out into the rain to look through the windows of the car to see if we can spot the keys. Look!! There they are!...............in the ignition. *groan* I feel pretty ridiculous and flutter-brained. I had said a prayer whe...

Quotes #3 Dr. Stokes becomes my source of laughter

These quotes are very Dr. Stokes heavy. He's the funniest person around so....it's understandable. Dr. Stokes: This computer needs to be rebuked. I had misheard him. He actually said, "This computer needs to be rebooted." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Student: So if the moon slowed down it would crash into the Earth? D r. Stokes: Yes. It would crash into us. *pause* Dr. Stokes: The moon.... is actually slowing down. the class is dead silent Dr. Stokes: Not in your life time! the class erupts into laughter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. Stokes does the "twist" Dr. Stokes: Angular momentum is conserved! So what is going the other way so that angular momentum can be conserved? nobody answers while he is twisting in front of the class Dr. Stokes: The earth! The earth is dancing with me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dr. Stokes: So on your date.....break off the top of the spoon in the restaurant ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...

Retalitation

So.....I had the chance to retake the Calculus test I didn't do so hot on. Before I tell you the out come I must inform you that there is this rule that says if you retake a Calculus test the highest score you can get is 70%. Anything below 70% stays at that score, but anything above 70% goes down to a 70%. So, I'm taking the test with a nervous mindset, but I studied a little bit before hand and I was making sure to have an answer that made some kind of sense before filling in a bubble. If I do the problem and don't get an answer that was a choice (this test was all multiple choice as opposed to 1/2 multiple choice, 1/2 free response on the original test) I then work backward with all the given answers. One of the problems wasn't working out forward or backward so I chose the answer that looked the most similar to an answer I got. ANYWAY! After all this doing forward and backward then redoing and undoing I turned in the 20 question multiple choice retake of the ...

Simple prayers bring forth miracles

Today after Physics, which ended at 10:30, I went to the library to study for my interior design test I have today. During Physics my stomach had started to hurt a little, but it wasn't any ordinary pain. It was the same pain I'd had only two times before; once at Julia's house and once during a random day at school. I recognized the starting pain at immediately tried to position myself so it wouldn't worse quickly. I was able to take notes and somewhat understand what was going on in Physics. I couldn't afford to not study so I went to the library knowing it would probably get worse. It was a little bit of a walk to the library and that made me feel a bit better, but once I got to the library and had been sitting down for a long time it became unbearable. I put my head on the table, which made it feel a teeny bit better. I then decided I needed to ask Heavenly Father to get me through the day because at this point there was no way that was going to happen wi...

Quotes #2

During a baby sitting job: Emma ( randomly) : You're beautiful! Me: Oh! Thank you! You're beautiful too. Emma ( in extreme drama) : Well, duh!!.....Womans are beautiful. Men are...whoo!!.....stiiiiiiinky!! She was waving her hand in front of her face while she said, "whoo!!......stinky!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Morgan and I were talking about the new phone she's going to get which will be a palm/phone and how the keys are really tiny. Morgan: I should get something to poke it with. Me: It comes with a stylus. Morgan: Oh yeah! Because it's a palm! Me: Yep! (pause....) Morgan: How thick is it? Me:Uh...well, you can't bend it very easily. Morgan: .....? I meant the phone... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inside joke alert! It's okay if you don't get it. Morgan: There's someone named Frank in our ward. Me: *gasp!!* No!! pause.....more pause...... Me: Is it a girl? Morgan: Hahahaha, no...... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~...

Time between classes

Okay, so I've got about 30 minutes before I have to go to my Book of Mormon class and I was thinking that was the perfect amount of time to write a blog post! So, to explain the previous post, I took my Book of Mormon test and my Calculus test and my Interior Design test in the past week. I don't like tests because I never know whether I'm prepared or not and that is frustrating. Apparently I wasn't prepared for two of my tests and could have been a little more prepared for one of them as well. Interior Design: 88.5% Book of Mormon: 77% Calculus: .......100%28%45%67%50%89%99%87%46%29%37%46%28%1%93%85%75%64%73%93%95%83%50%29%18%76%57%38%29%18%26%..... my score is in there somewhere. You can decide what it is because I'm not going to tell you. Recently I've been really stressed out and not happy and messy and pimply and lazy and lots of negative things. And I don't like it. SO! Guess what? I'm going to be productive and get everything done in a timely...

Update

So here is an update: I hate tests. Amen.

Oops, butchered that.....oh well. What's next?

Oops, butchered that too! Mkay. Next! Boooom! there's one more thing butchered. Let's keep moving. There's not time to stop and be sad. What's next? Whoa! a 100%? That's nice! Next? That's how I feel college is. A huge clock that just relentlessly ticks. There was a day this week when everything was just stacking up on top of everything else and it was as if I was being pulled and push by the second hand on the college clock and there's no time to figure out what I did wrong. Well, maybe that's a lie. I can think pretty quickly when it's absolutely and totally necessary so I'd be able to tell what needs to be done differently. Actually, it was kind of fun to go through my day by not being able to dwell on what happened, but being forced to focus on what was happening right then. I felt accomplished and grown-up when I got to the end of it with a smile on my face. I must say though, I wouldn't have gotten through it half as wel...

Remembering. Not re-living.

I got a few texts that said something along the lines of, "In honor of the men and women who lost their lives today, pass this along and keep it going until midnight" or something along those lines. First of all, how is that honoring them? Sending a text seems more like a glint of thought about this day and nothing past that. That doesn't seem very adequate. But reliving the memories is not adequate as well. Torturing oneself so that they go through the pain experienced, the tears that were shed, the heartache that was felt that day and the next few years is not a way to honor our brothers and sisters who died. I was talking to my mom today and she said that on the radio they had a recording of people calling from the Two Towers trying to get help, they had little children who were made orphans talking, they had music in the background to make it even more emotional. That is much to extreme and I believe dishonoring them as they wouldn't want that pain to come ba...

the roommates, the classes, the food.....the walking

THE ROOMMATES Chelsea is the one that laughs and laughs then brings everyone else into her warm laughter. While we were meeting with the Bishopric they all asked us to talk about ourselves for a bit and before Chelsea could start talking every said that she was the funny one. By the end of our apartment interview the Bishopric agreed with that. Her smile and happy countenance are definitely nice to be around. (Diclaimer: I had just come home from being out in the rain so I don't look very great.) Emily is the excellent flute player who loves to smile and is very excited about life and the adventures that have come as well as those that await. She is always sure to let one know she cares. She wants dearly to become a special education teacher (right?) and loves everyone around her. She's the one on the right. Mykell knows what she wants and goes for it. She's a very disciplined person, but seems very content with her life and will keep working on wh...

Tear jerking jerks.....aka, college.

I have homework........but that's not the sad part...... I DON'T GET IT! Calculus is the hard part at the moment. My teacher barely skimmed the top of the material then sent us off to complete the assignments. AND I'M READY TO KILL SOMETHING!! The book is not explaining the concepts very well, and I am not in a position to be able to go to the math lab since today is saturday, tomorrow is sunday, and everything will be closed on monday for labor day, and then it's due on TUESDAY!!! GAH! On a better note, I got my physics homework done. It was pretty simple because it was just plugging #'s into some formulas. But now I've got to ready the next chapter.....and read 20 million pages in 3 books for my Book of Mormon class, then 20 million more pages for my American Heritage class, and the 20 million MORE pages for my interior design class.....all due on TUESDAY. So maybe it's not such a better note. I will not be a child about this though. I will not stand up ...

And so it begins

Today marked the first sacrament meeting in my college ward. The strangeness and foreign-ness of this new ward definitely presented itself, but it a way, there came a normality about all of it. My roommate taught in Sunday school, though it wasn't the Sunday school I went to since my ward would be the same in sacrament as well as Sunday school if they didn't split it up. My apartment has the assignment to teach Sunday School for the first 4 weeks and so she took the first week, that brave soul. She's a people person though and I love being around her so she most likely did a wonderful job. We met with the bishopric as an apartment and later this week we'll meet with them individually. They seem very likable and loving. I'm excited to get to know them better and serve in the ward. During the "interviews" I told them I'd be willing to play the piano whenever they wanted me too and one of the High Councilors said, "So if you were asked to play...

College is coming through my door

Image
I moved down to Provo where I will be attending BYU. It's small and I have yet to figure out how to get ready and not look like a mess when I'm finished. I don't think my straightener likes the change of scenery. I've found it's not as effective here, which is weird because the outlets work just fine. Maybe it's just the way I'm using it because I'm not liking the change of scenery.... These are a few pictures of my dorm room. It's small, but cozy. A funny story about my curtains: I had them hanging over the shelf and tucked between the wall and my bed, but Wednesday night (the first night sleeping here) I was moving around a lot and ended up pulling the curtains forward a little and one of the picture frames fell on me. The corner hit the corner of my eye. Thankfully I wasn't too injured, but I quickly took everything off and set it on my desk and gobbled the curtains up and set them up out of the way until the next morning when I folded...
